Group Lessons

Beginning Guitar
6 week class, covers the basics of the most popular instrument in the world. Curriculum covers technique, basic music theory, basic sight reading, note identification, basic chord structures, rhythm technique, song structure and analysis, and having lots of fun. Great introduction to guitar for age 6 to adult. One hour, weekly classes. Classes begin in January, April, June, and October.

Beginning Ukulele
6 week class, covers the basics of the happiest instrument. Chording, note reading, keeping rhythm, tuning an instrument. Great introduction to the world of music for age 6 to adult. One hour, weekly classes. Classes begin in January, April, June, and October.

Beginning Violin
7 week class, 45 minute sessions. Beginning Violin will teach the basics of the violin in a small group setting. Teaches fundamentals and builds confidence. Classes begin in January, April, June, and October.

Combos and Small Ensembles

String Ensemble
7 week class, covers small ensemble playing for orchestral string players. One hour, weekly classes. Classes begin in January, April, June, and October.

Cadenza Blues & Jazz Combos
7 week class, provides coaching for student musicians in improvisation, chords and jazz harmonies, the lingo of jazz, and common musical forms. One hour, weekly class, ending with a performance for family and friends. Recommendation from private lesson instructor is required for this group. Specific combos will form based on student's experience and teacher's recommendations. Classes form in January, April, June, and October.

Cadenza Blues & Jazz Adult Combo

Cadenza Rock & Roll Combos
7 week class, provides coaching for student musicians in performing in a rock band. Covers chords and harmonies, rock rhythm, soloing, and accompanying other musicians. Recommendation from private lesson instructor is required for this group. Specific combos will form based on student's experience and teacher's recommendations. One hour, weekly class, ending with a performance. Classes form in January, April, June, and October.

Cadenza Rock & Roll Combo Adult

Private Lessons

Percussion
Eron Woods
- graduate of the University of Miami with a degree in jazz performance. He has performed with artists such as Clint Holmes, Carol Lawrence, "The Spinners," "The Drifters," "The Coasters," and Dominck Allen. Eron started his drumming career with a traveling circus.

Piano
Solveig Mebust - a musicologist and music educator with over a decade of private voice, piano and flute teaching experience in the Twin Cities. As a vocalist and flutist, she has performed in a variety of styles, including classical, jazz, pop, folk and musical theater. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education with specialization in both vocal and instrumental music from Augsburg University, and a Masters (and nearly a PhD) in Historical Musicology from the University of Minnesota. She is focused on helping students develop healthy technique, confidence in singing/playing and performance, and strong musicianship skills.

Steven Zubich - graduate of University of Minnesota-Duluth and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Steven frequently performs as both a solo and collaborative pianist, and is known as a creative and engaging teacher.

Wes Ruelle - graduate of William Paterson University, known as one of the top jazz programs, where he studied with many New York jazz greats. He also studied classical piano repertoire. He performs in a variety of genres, including jazz, classical, rock, funk, and blues.

Bowed Strings
Laurel Browne - violin and viola, graduate of the University of Minnesota. She has studied Suzuki method and uses a mix of Suzuki and classical teaching methods. Performs with the Minnesota Opera Orchestra and Minnesota Sinfonia. When she’s not playing, you might find Laurel playing her dulcimer, working a crossword, or riding her bike—just not all at the same time.

Dave Carbonara - cello and bass. Before moving to the Twin Cities, Dave was a member of the Louisiana Philharmonic bass section in New Orleans for 17 years. Received his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in double bass from the Juilliard School. He is trained in Suzuki Method for cello.

Ginna Watson - violin, University of Michigan Master of Arts, teaches beginning individual and group lessons. As a performer, Ginna specializes in baroque violin and viola and performs with the Lyra Baroque Orchestra and Rose Ensemble. She frequently gives masterclasses on medieval and baroque performance practice. She works with beginning to advanced students.

Laurie McFaul - violin, graduate of the University of Minnesota. She has studied Suzuki method and is certified in the Mark O'Connor Method. Laurie provides private violin lessons to students from age 6 to adult, using praise and positive encouragement to provide a unique learning experience.

Guitar/Bass
Bob Ekstrand - guitar, began playing the guitar at age ten. His original compositions have not only won songwriting contests, but also have been featured in a National Public Radio broadcast. Bob teaches students of all levels, and he adapts his lessons to the student's musical interests.

Chris Brantley - guitar, ukulele. Chris is a talented teacher and performer, highly-regarded by students and families. He has developed guitar-teaching curriculum and is skilled at adapting his teaching to the needs of the student. Chris works with students of all ages.

Chris Micek - studied classical guitar at the University of Minnesota with Jim McGuire. Chris is a first call player and can often be heard performing with Cadenza Music's Jeff King.

David Feily - guitar, graduate of University of Saint Thomas. David has been teaching for five years. He performs as a regular member of Viva Brazil, a Brazilian variety band, as well as the Kevin Washington Group and the Dan Kusz Band. David works with beginning to advanced students.

Erik Fratzke - bass, studied at St. Mary's College with Dr. John Paulson, as well as a summer session at Berklee College of Music. He was selected Best Bassist of the year by the MN Music Academy in '93, '95 and '98. He currently can be heard with Happy Apple.

Joel Shapira - guitar, studied at Berklee School of Music, and The Mannes School of Music in New York City, where he taught and performed for eight years. Joel can be heard regularly at jazz clubs in the metro area. Joel teaches classical and jazz styles.

Michael May - guitar, graduate Wayne State University. Michael became a musician the moment he unwrapped a Kay acoustic guitar on Christmas morning at 12 years of age. He began taking lessons and was soon playing house parties with friends. He has completed advanced studies in theory and jazz improvisation. Michael teaches guitar students at all levels.

Michael Zimmerman - guitar, performs professionally in the Twin Cities area with the Kurt Jorgenson Band. Michael studied music at Waldorf College and audio recording at Brown College. He teaches many styles of guitar playing, for beginning to advanced students.

Paul Storms - graduate of University of Minnesota, studied with Jeffery Van. Performed in master classes with Sharon Isbin, Christopher Parkening, and Larry Coryell. He also performed with Larry Coryell at the Ordway. Finalist in Schubert Club Competition (bested by Sharon Isbin.) He's performed live on KDWB, WCCO (TV) and KTCA.

Zacc Harris - guitar. Graduate, Southern Illinois University. Zacc is an accomplished jazz guitarist and instructor of all styles. He has taught privately for over 15 years, is on faculty at Hamline University, and his group Atlantis Quartet was named Best Jazz Artist by City Pages and Star Tribune.

Brass and Woodwinds
Scott Anderson -
brass, studied at Bemidji State and University of Minnesota. He has been a member of Dr. David Baldwin's Summit Hill Brass for 25 years. Scott has been teaching privately for over ten years.

Bryanne Presley - oboe, Masters, oboe performance, University of Minnesota. Studied with John Snow (Minnesota Orchestra) and has performed with the St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra, St. Croix Valley Symphony Orchestra, Kenwood Symphony, Carpe Diem Vocal Ensemble, Minneapolis Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, In May 2010, Bryanne performed as a soloist on the National Public Radio Show “From the Top.”

Karen Hansen - clarinet specialist, saxophone, In addition to positions with Dolce Wind Quintet and Rochester Symphony Orchestra, Karen is principal clarinetist with Bloomington Symphony Orchestra and Mississippi Valley Orchestra. She is a Thursday Musical performing artist and does freelance work for Classical MPR, The Schubert Club, Rochester Choral Arts Ensemble, and others. During vacations she is a music lecturer on cruise ships..

Jeff King - sax and clarinet, studied at the University of Minnesota with Ruben Haugen, and at Cadenza Music with Pat Moriarty. Toured South America with the Lakewood Big Band, and performed with Clark Terry, Bill Wattrous, Bud Shank and others. Jeff is a first call sax player in the Twin Cities.

Buffy Larson - trumpet, Buffy studied modern trumpet with Mike Brand and David Baldwin at Augsburg College and the University of Minnesota. Buffy has degrees in Music Education and Elementary education from Augsburg College as well as a Master in Music Education from St. Thomas. University. Buffy plays with the Minnesota Philharmonic and the Capital City Brass Quintet. She has recently started studying the Baroque Trumpet with Martin Hodel and Kris Kwapis.

Dorothy Sauser-Monnig - flute, graduate of Macalester College, MFA in flute from University of Minnesota. Dorothy has performed with a variety of ensembles including the Minneapolis Civic Orchestra, Westminster Winds, and various jazz groups as well as solo recitals.

Jessica B. Nelson - bassoon, Degree in bassoon and piano from the University of Minnesota, Morris where she studied bassoon with Russell Peterson. After graduating from UMM, she lived in Sao Paulo, Brazil for 5 years and studied at the Universidade Livre de Musica. She was also second bassoonist in the Orquestra Experimental de Repertorio. When not playing the bassoon, you can find her enjoying her time at the gym, gardening, and enjoying the outdoors.

Voice
